What is the difference between a blue & green licence plate?

answer

Blue licence plates = test plates
Authorised for test drives. (garages, car dealers, vehicle manufacturers, cleaning companies, experts) To be applied for exclusively at the district authority. It must be credibly demonstrated why a test licence plate is required. With this authorisation, you can collect the licence plate from the registration office. Insurance cover can be arranged via Asko. Expressly not to be used for vehicle transfers.

Green licence plates - transfer licence plates for journeys to transfer the vehicle to another location. Must be registered separately at the registration office for each vehicle transfer.  (separate licence plate for each transfer) Valid for a maximum of 21 days. The insurer or risk carrier for the transfer licence plate changes every 2 weeks. Insurance cover cannot be taken out via Asko. Not suitable for importing a vehicle from abroad to Austria.
